The History of Alaudo

Alaudo Family Association (AFA) consists of the sons,

daughters and their families from Umuagukwu, Umuoduga,

Umulolo and Umuosanyi kindreds of Ogbe, Ahiazu-Mbaise,

Nigeria resident across the United States of America and

Canada. In 2001, the idea of organizing AFA was conceived and

the initial meeting held in Dallas, TX, on August 26th 2001 at the

residence of Dr. Maurice Ugwuibe. I was elected as the Interim

General Secretary and Mr. Celestine Young was elected as

Interim President. We worked with many others to articulate a

clear mission for the Association. We were tasked with choosing

a name for the Association, drafting a Constitution and Articles

of Incorporation, and registering the new organization. That, we

did with great passion and commitment. On July 27 th , 2002 AFA

held its inaugural convention in Houston, Texas where among

other deliberations, a five-member Board of Directors with,

Engr. Chidi Akpunku as Chairman, were elected. On October

10, 2002, Alaudo Family Association was incorporated as a

nonprofit charitable organization in the State of California.

Today, as I look back twenty-three years later, I note with pride,

the progress that we have made together. The organization has

grown to over sixty members and their families and still

growing. In addition to the inaugural convention in 2002, we

have held other successful conventions in Dallas, TX (2003);

Atlanta, GA (2004); Houston, TX (2005); Kenosha, WI (2007);

Corpus Christi, TX (2010); Houston, TX (2012); Dallas, TX

(2014); Atlanta, GA (2015); New York, NY (2017); Corpus

Christi, TX (2019); and Antioch, California (2023; during which

we raised funds to help finance the activities of the organization.

In 2004, the Association acquired and installed a 500 KVA

transformer for our people at the cost of over fifteen thousand

($15,000.00) dollars. The Association is grateful to the

Chairman, Mr. Nick. Nwuda and other members of the

Economic Development committee for their efforts in the

Electricity project. From February 2011 to 2021, the Association

provided health Care to our people by hiring three registered

nurses who provided counseling/education and medication to

thousands of patients from our community and neighboring

villages. The total cost to the Association for salaries, supplies

and medication was over twenty-five thousand ($25,000.00)

dollars. We are grateful to the Chairperson, Dr., Chief (Mrs.)

Adaku Anosike (nee Akpunku) and other members of the Health

Care committee for their dedication, time and efforts to the

success of the project. We wish to thank Dr. Kelechi Akpunku

for donating medication as well as his financial support. We are

also grateful to own philanthropist, Mr. Emeka Akpunku, as

well as other members for all their financial support. A list of all

the donors will be displayed at the health care center that is

scheduled to be opened on January 2 nd , 2025. This center will

continue to provide quality health care, education, counseling to

all members of the local community as well as ourselves should

we need heath care. We want to express our gratitude to my

friend, Fr. Peter Claver Ugoagwu, whose nonprofit organisation

sank a borehole for us at the clinic to enable us not only have

constant water supply at the clinic but also provide free water to

the community.
